La Place des Arts

The Place des Arts is widely recognised as Québec’s cultural epicentre, but it can also feel intimidatingly formal, even inaccessible, to younger audiences. A perception reinforced by programming often centred around highly established artists (and the ticket prices that come with them), presented in venues associated with a rather strict sense of decorum.
To connect with this younger audience, Collection deliberately moved away from Place des Arts’ serious, established visual language. Rather than adhering too strictly to the institution’s brand guidelines, we drew inspiration from the work of Claude Léveillée, the artist after whom the venue hosting the series is named.
Beyond inspiring the series’ name itself, Léveillée, and particularly his album Black Sun (a true québécois gem), informed the project’s typography, layouts, and colour palette.
