Founded in 2016 by art historian Rutger Brandt, Amsterdam-based Brandt Gallery represents a diverse roster of emerging and established international artists, presenting contemporary art through exhibitions, performances and experimental practices.
To mark its 10th anniversary, the gallery has unveiled a new visual identity developed by the newly established design studio Bureau Brandt, founded by Sophia Brandt. The rebrand moves away from its former name, Rutger Brandt Gallery, towards the more distinctive and internationally resonant Brandt.
At the heart of the identity is a custom-crafted geometric wordmark, paired with Laica, an expressive headline typeface inspired by the contrast between broad- and pointed-nib pens. The resulting typographic system balances structure with playfulness, reflecting the gallery’s evolving artistic programme.
A monochrome palette provides a high-contrast foundation, allowing the artwork to take centre stage, while a punchy blue accent introduces energy and recognition. Supporting Brandt’s growing international presence across exhibitions and art fairs, the new identity establishes a confident platform for its next chapter.
