Exemplar is a typeface shaped by more than three decades of refinement. Originally drawn by Swedish type designer Göran Söderström in 1994 under the name Neptuna, the typeface has evolved from an expressive, experimental design into a considered typographic family that reflects a lifetime of practice.
Redrawn and renamed Exemplar Pro in 2008, the typeface was refined through collaboration, shedding its earlier excesses while retaining the ideas that gave it character. Now, its final release brings together 1,018 glyphs across four scripts: Latin, Greek, Cyrillic and Arabic.
Developed with support from Léo Guibert and Laurette Colmard, the 2026 edition represents a culmination of Söderström’s ongoing exploration of letterforms. To mark its release, Exemplar’s characters have also been carved into marble, connecting contemporary type design with the enduring tradition of inscriptions in stone.
A study in patience, evolution and typographic craft, Exemplar demonstrates how great design can mature over time.
