Bitterschön
Bitterschön approached Barkas, a brand studio with offices in Copenhagen and Stockholm, they didn’t even have a name yet — only a vision and recipe to create great-tasting adult soft drinks that don’t harm the body or the environment. By making a slight tweak to the well-known German phrase “Bitte schön” (Eng: “you’re very welcome”), Barkas, however, saw an opportunity to highlight the complex taste of the drink, and at the same time show ‘good manners’ towards people and the planet.
The Bitterschön Logomark is typed in the tall, elegant typeface Queens, and inspired by the drinks bitter and sweet taste notes, it contains both italic and regular weights. The primary colour palette is simply black and white, leaving room for the secondary palette which is based on the natural ingredients — lemon and orange. With inspiration from classical fruit stamps, Barkas furthermore created a set of brand elements that communicate the Bitterschön drink in a sharp, clean, and playful ways — again as another reference to the taste.
