Wellington-based photographer Steven Boniface (Boniface) is renowned for his mix of portraiture and commercial projects. Boniface came to Grafik in need of a new identity and website that expresses his character while also emphasising his photography. The scope of the project included both design, development and branding.

Their solution centres around an extended typeface that captures a particular analogue materiality evident in Boniface’s work. Delivered via a deep ultramarine blue, the bold typography acts as the primary interface for the website. A stark, uniform, and fundamentally minimal grid provides a simple canvas to highlight the quality of Boniface’s imagery. Filtering enables easy sorting of the greater portfolio (identified early as an essential audience need), and exploratory animation brings the experience to life, making browsing swift and efficient.
