A Ghost Town Reborn: Vrints-Kolsteren’s evocative identity for Doel Festival

Nestled in the ghost town of Doel along Belgium’s Scheldt River, Doel Festival celebrates the intersection of art, music, and place. For the project, Vrints-Kolsteren developed a visual identity that reflects the town’s haunting yet hopeful atmosphere. Inspired by rusted steel, fading graffiti, and abandoned architecture, the design captures the tension between decay and renewal. Each year, the evolving identity reveals new layers, echoing Doel’s ongoing transformation.

The studio’s concept extends beyond visuals every design decision reinforces the festival’s commitment to cultural preservation. A portion of ticket sales supports local restoration efforts, creating a meaningful connection between the event and its surroundings. Through bold typography, textured graphics, and evocative storytelling, Vrints-Kolsterentransforms Doel Festival into more than an experience it’s a living dialogue between heritage, creativity, and community.
