Studio Diggory Gordon has developed a new identity, packaging and e-commerce platform for Emily Nixon (b.1966), an artist, curator and jeweller based in West Penwith. Nixon’s practice evolved from sculpture and tapestry into metal and stone, building a distinctive visual language through direct engagement with natural materials rather than formal training.
The identity draws on the geological context of Nixon’s studio and the tension between raw, irregular forms and the refinement of precious metals. At its centre sits a wordmark cast from a salvaged piece of metal type and printed by hand. Subtle imperfections from the typesetting process are intentionally preserved, resisting graphic uniformity in favour of something more tactile and human.
Colour was developed in collaboration with consultant Kate Shaw, hand-mixed before being reproduced as a custom paper stock used across the packaging. All printed elements were typeset and letterpress printed by hand by New North Press. This materially focused approach extends throughout the wider system, treating printed matter as objects in their own right.
Online, a bespoke e-commerce platform extends the identity, foregrounding utility, pacing and material detail.
