Play creates a playful identity for Kulturhaus, a Bavarian-inspired brewery located on California’s Pismo Beach, blending European beer culture with laid-back West Coast design. Translating to “society house” in German, a Kulturhaus is traditionally a place for gathering, leisure, and cultural values that sit at the heart of the brand’s visual identity.

The Kulturhaus logo reimagines classic Bavarian beer iconography through a contemporary lens, combining hops, stein handles and Pacific Ocean waves into a modern coat of arms. This fusion reflects the brewery’s role as a communal space that brings people together.

Typography plays a central role, with Optimo’s Plain Regular delivering Bauhaus-inspired clarity and functionality, supported by ExtraBold for impact across packaging and signage. A colour palette of Bavarian blues and whites is balanced with warm Californian blacks, creams, and oranges.

Playful, abstract illustrations add warmth and flexibility, creating a design system that works seamlessly across cans, interiors, and brand touchpoints.
