OpenAI’s inaugural developer conference, DevDay, occurred on November 6, 2023, in San Francisco. Developers globally gathered for a day of collaboration with OpenAI, previewing innovative tools and sharing ideas. In-person participants had the opportunity to join breakout sessions led by OpenAI’s technical staff, fostering interactive discussions and knowledge exchange.
Play used the Söhne Mono typeface for the OpenAI DevDay logotype, evoking the aesthetics of traditional computer code. The monospaced structure of the typeface enables flexible arrangement variations, allowing it to shift and stack while preserving a sharp, rectangular form at a consistent 90-degree angle.
The design system revolves around the fundamental unit of computer data: the bit. By assembling hundreds of these bits, a radiating ring is formed. The simple square shape of each bit grants the ring remarkable flexibility, offering a distinct perspective at both macro and micro levels.
